ABSTRACT

Architects should be in charge of structural design of their own projects, for at least two reasons. It allows them to develop and face the form of the structure that will be necessary, and to organically merge it with the formal intentions. Secondly, thanks to such a sensible design, they can achieve an acceptable structure in terms of materials and grey energy, ensuring sustainability both at the construction and demolition phase. Architects' usual tools like sketching, drawing plans and 3-D modelling (which portrays a gravity-less universe) are ineffective in this area.
