ABSTRACT

Reinforced concrete columns as well as composite ones are subjected to an axial load as predominant effort which usually comes accompanied by two bending m oments around the other two axis.

Since the mid twentieth century, this columns have been frequently investigated raising different design methods, contrasted with results from experimental tests. When referring to short columns whose length has no influence in their bearing capacity , methods suggested by Anderson & Lee (1951), Bresler (1960), Pannel (1963) and m ore recently Hsu (1988), Rodríguez & Aristozabal-Ochoa (1999) or Chen et al. (2001) should be mentioned.
