ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In architectural competitions the structural engineer tends to be overshadowed by the architect. Architects often develop their competition submissions without thinking of working together with a structural engineer, because they are convinced that their own considerations and drafts are sufficiently strong and compelling to get them selected as the victorious project. It is therefore interesting to consider the influence a structural engineer can have on the design, and whether architects can increase their chances of a successful project with an apt choice of specialist planners.
