ABSTRACT
The design of buildings must be a collaborative activity because of the wide range of knowledge and skills that are required. Architects commonly need to collaborate with structural and service engineers and possibly with others for larger and more complex buildings. This paper is co ncerned with their collaboration with structural e ngineers but before considering this it is i mportant to examine the meaning of the word ‘collaboration’.
