ABSTRACT
Analgesics may be defined as drugs that bring about insensibility to pain without loss of consciousness. Their use started with plant drugs that were discovered to relieve pain and broadened to the modern development of synthesizing molecules of effective agents. The discovery of morphine in the early 19th century launched a search for other effective plant drugs.
