ABSTRACT

Before providing a detailed description of each tool and step in the facilitation methodology, this chapter explains the methodology and how the tools fit together. You may even want to read this chapter first to get a brief overview of the methodology. You will note that each step builds on the results and outcomes from the prior step. This assumes that your organization and your leadership team has reached the difficult realization that redesigning core processes is required to survive or thrive, and has made the major decision to do it. Specifically, the senior leadership team has determined that reengineering how you deliver care is your organization’s major strategic objective, and fully understands the strategic and cultural change implications of this objective. Senior leaders have selected the few key initiatives, which are assigned to facilitators and team leaders, and have defined the scope of the initiative without being prohibitive. Nothing can be off-limits. The management team appreciates the order and magnitude of change that this endeavor will unleash within the organization and is ready to actively manage this change.
