toward building more sustainable facilities, commonly called “Green Buildings,” with decreased energy and resource usage. A number of green building rating and certi-cation methods have emerged, such as Green Globes, the United Kingdom’s Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method, German Sustainable Building Certicate, and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is the most popular and widely accepted certi- cation in the United States, having been adopted by the Department of Defense (DoD), which requires all new construction (NC) to be LEED certiable.
