ABSTRACT

Environmental health may be dened as, “the segment of public health that is concerned with assessing, understanding, and controlling the impacts of people on their environment and the impacts of the environment on them” (Moeller 2011). This eld of study should not be confused with environmental protection that may be regarded as primarily protecting ecosystems. Nevertheless, the goals and consequences of each eld of study are not mutually exclusive. Furthermore, in dening the “environment,” we may include the occupational setting and consider the eld of occupational health or industrial hygiene.
