ABSTRACT

Carbohydrate composition analysis of glycoproteins is a challenging prob lem in glycobiology. The ever increasing number of reports dealing with glycoproteins demands simple, highly sensitive methods for characteriza tion of their glycosylation. An accurate determination of the monosaccha ride composition of a glycoprotein is a preparatory step in learning about its glycosylation. Furthermore, quantitative determination of monoasaccharides is a prerequisite for structural characterization of the isolated oligosaccharides/glycopeptides by various physical, chemical, and enzymatic techniques [1,2]. Methods used for carbohydrate composition analysis have been reviewed in [3].
