ABSTRACT
In 2006 Daniel Solove, an American legal scholar, published an extensive taxonomy of privacy. Over 84 pages, he explained the concept of privacy by reviewing more than a hundred years of legal case studies concerning privacy harms in the United States. Based on this analysis, he summarized 16 privacy issues, as shown in Figure 12.1. He concluded that privacy is a “chameleon-like word.” No one can dene it precisely while covering all its facets. e term is relevant in so many contexts that when it comes to machine age computing, “privacy seems to be about everything” and therefore “to some it appears to be nothing” (Solove 2006, p. 479).
