ABSTRACT
While the world’s human population was relatively small and technology limited, the oceans’ productivity seemed endless and thus taken for granted for centuries. As the human population grew and technology increasingly augmented marine travel and the extraction of resources, the heretofore seemingly limitless supply of human-related products has been progressively abused until today the world’s oceans themselves are considered merely an endless commodity and thus grossly overexploited.
