ABSTRACT
Cohort, case-control and cross-sectional studies are collectively known as observational studies, where the investigators or clinicians do not necessarily manipulate the way exposure and outcome variables occur. One may
employ different study designs to answer the same research question. Each study design has different features, advantages as well as disadvantages, and this can be exemplified with the following research question: Is solar exposure associated with skin cancer among Australians?
