ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the analysis of bridges where the transverse width is sufciently small that they can be treated as beams or frames. This greatly simplies the analysis so this chapter serves as an introduction to a range of analysis topics. Where transverse width is signicant, a one-dimensional beam becomes a two-dimensional slab and a two-dimensional frame becomes a three-dimensional structure; these more complex structures are treated, for the most part, in later chapters.
