ABSTRACT
Even a superficial perusal of the talmudic sources that mention evasion reveals two distinct attitudes - some evasions are prohibited, others are con doned. Instances of the latter include passages such as:
One may evade [paying tithes] on his grain by concealing it in the chaff, so that his animal might eat it.1
