ABSTRACT

Lack of confidence has its origins in the fear of public speaking. It is important to recognise that this fear is perfectly natural and, indeed, desirable. The aim in developing confi dence is to control fear, not to overcome it. Do not imagine that the day will come when you are not nervous of speaking in public. Rather, look forward to the day when you will be confident enough to undertake any public speaking commit ment, knowing that you will make a good job of it but knowing also that you will be nervous when the time comes.
