ABSTRACT

When travelling by bus or train you can use the same technique. Again the planned speech is hardly likely to be used, but there are occasions when you could be asked to say something. At dinners, dances and other social gatherings someone could be planning a surprise for you. Think of those people featured in This is Your Life, a well-known TV programme that brings unsuspecting people before the cameras. If you adopt as a matter of principle the thought that wherever you are you could be asked to address those present, then you will be prepared. The mentally composed speeches will not only provide practice but will also give you insurance against the need for such a speech arising. Clearly you cannot envisage the required content of such a speech with any accuracy, but you can get clear in your mind much of the background to the event. This would at least provide a suitable introduction and would create thinking time for the preparation of your message.
