ABSTRACT

In these closing paragraphs I would like to address members of the audience. We are all members of the audience at one time or another, and it is in this capacity that we suffer from poor presentations. Great improvement is unlikely to take place until audiences become more critical. Attending confer ences is an expensive activity and we have a right to expect value for money, just as we would if attending a theatrical performance. Meetings also are expensive, though perhaps less obviously so. A glance round the table, an estimate of salaries and overheads, and a little mental arithmetic will soon confirm the fact.
