ABSTRACT

Owing to the turbulent nature of the wind velocities in storms of all types, the wind loads acting on structures are also highly fluctuating. There is a potential to excite the resonant dynamic response for structures, or parts of structures, with natural frequencies less than about 1 Hz. The resonant response of a structure introduces the complication of a timehistory effect, in which the response at any time depends not just on the instantaneous wind gust velocities, or pressures, acting along the structure, but also on the previous time history of wind gusts or pressures.
