ABSTRACT

To rehabilitate or not to rehabilitate, that is the question. Collection system inspection reveals many defects. Rehabilitation (“rehab”) upgrades and improves the system. Rehab corrects defects and removes deficiencies. Reha bilitation has many purposes: to prevent pipeline failures, plug infiltration, minimize maintenance headaches, upgrade capacity, counteract severe corro sion, and improve system hydraulics. Sewers have a design life of about 100 years. Due to structural defects, wear and tear, overloading, corrosion, and deterioration, most sewers won’t last that long. Rehab tries to restore sewers to their original life expectancy. Rehab is often considered a 50-year fix.
