When we introduce new technologies, ostensibly designed to improve our health and happiness, we often, simultaneously, add insult and injury to our environment and ourselves. Airconditioning, perhaps, is the best example of such dubious progress-especially in light of what happened at the American Legion Convention in Philadelphia, in 1976.
