ABSTRACT

We live in a time when change is swift and often abrupt. Technology changes so quickly that even people and organizations who have made it their business to change sometimes fall behind. Organizations and people who hesitate slightly can fall far behind in a short period of time. Not long ago, many administrators in leading American organizations believed that if they were cognizant of technological changes, and adapted these changes to their organization, they could be successful. History has told us, however, that it wasn't so easy. For example, automobile manufacturers in America led the world in technology advancements in building automobiles. Yet, at the same time, the American automobile manufacturers were losing many of their customers to foreign competitors. What we learned in industry was that even the most sophisticated technology was not the answer to maintaining success.
