ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, the finite element (FE) modeling of structures was discussed, and then the concept of the eigenvalues-eigenvectors was introduced to estimate the natural frequencies and mode shapes. This process needs detailed geometry, material properties, and boundary conditions for developing the mathematical FE model. Alternatively, the natural frequencies and mode shapes together with the modal damping at each mode can be extracted by experimental means without constructing the mathematical model of the structural system. This process is called experimental modal analysis.
