World fi sh production from capture fi sheries and aquaculture is very signifi cant for global food security and food trade, providing an apparent per capita supply of 18.6 kg in 2010. It averaged 135.6 million tons (t) during the period 2000-2010, with a record high of 148.5 million t in 2010 (FAO 2012a).
