Nano scale optomechanical systems are emerging as new generation quantum devices, which can support coherent energy exchange between multiple modes. In this chapter, we review three optomechanical systems: (1) Two optical modes coupled to one mechanical mode. This system belongs to the next generation of quantum communications and quantum information processing units. This hybrid optomechanical system is useful as the photonic modes can exchange energy over long distances and phononic modes can store energy for a longer duration. (2) A Bose Einstein condensate coupled to magnetic mechanical oscillator. This system is shown to act like a phonon laser. (3) A Bose Einstein condensate coupled to a optical cavity mode and a mechanical oscillator. This novel system is shown to be sensitive to weak external force by cooling the mechanical oscillator to its quantum ground state.
