ABSTRACT

American corporations are complex enterprises. Operating in a hierarchical, yet coordinated managerial fashion, corporations hire people to perform a wide range of tasks to meet their varied needs. In turn, the employees of corporations use their salaries from their work for life’s necessities. Because of their large sizes and access to capital, corporations “can undertake tasks beyond the reach of any single person.”1 Whether searching out raw materials, manufacturing products, or selling services, corporations collectively constitute America’s economic engine.
