ABSTRACT

Government is the authoritative component for maintaining relative harmony in a society. Leaders in power are tasked with managing society’s problems to the extent that they rise to the level requiring some kind of response. In representative democracies such as ours, government must consider entreaties in ways that at least recognize the concerns and needs of those who petition for assistance. is is a dicult task, given that beyond the general commitment to the basic political apparatus, American society is anything but a monolithic body politic. Dicult or not, it’s incumbent upon elected ocials to remain connected with those who put them in power and depend upon their attention.
