ABSTRACT
Few values are trumpeted in American society as much as the notion of equal opportunity, a principle prized as a cornerstone of American political culture. Yet, discussion of the topic oen generates heated and passionate opinions among participants, revealing a polarized society. at’s because dierent interpretations of the term touch not only on the essence of human nature but also on the appropriate role of government in managing the well-being of its citizens.
