ABSTRACT
The following list encompasses the main techniques for examination of the abdomen. It is however only necessary to perform those techniques that are indicated by the patient’s history and the rest of the examination. For instance, it is unnecessary to check for Murphy’s sign if there is no upper abdominal pain and if the liver is normal on palpation and percussion, it would be fruitless to check for liver bruits.
