ABSTRACT

Geneva [1], adopted the 2006 Convention on maritime labor. This Convention applies to international shipping and covers key issues such as the minimum requirements for the seafarers to work on a ship (Title I of the MLC), the conditions of employment (Title II, MLC), accommodation, recreational facilities, Food and catering (Title III, MLC), health, health care, and social security (Title IV), and compliance and its implementation (Title V), in order to guarantee decent living and working conditions on board, and the procedures for implementing them. This Convention may be considered as the first code of maritime employment for more than 1.2 million seafarers worldwide, as well as for ship owners and maritime nations across the globe.
