ABSTRACT
This chapter considers the data gathering problem in a large-scale wireless sensor network. Such a large-scale data gathering sensor network finds a variety of applications in habitat monitoring, traffic control, and surveillance. In general, large-scale sensor data gathering is accomplished through multi-hop routing from individual sensor nodes to the data sink. Successful deployment of such large-scale sensor networks faces two major challenges in effective global communication cost reduction and in energy consumption load balancing.
