ABSTRACT

The solid form of water formed by the freezing of water, transformation of snow through firn into glacier ice (Figure I.1), the condensation of atmospheric water vapour as crystals in sub-zero temperatures, and the soaking of a porous snow pack by water that subsequently freezes. A piece of stranded glacier ice, a bergy bit, melting away, on a beach near Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard. https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315373157/95d5ad9e-a71d-4f11-a609-2c025b95638b/content/figi_1.jpg"/>
