ABSTRACT
Infectious diseases can present initially as situations requiring rapid assessment, expeditious transport, and immediate care. This chapter provides information on the salient features of several important infectious disease emergencies with which every emergency care provider should be familiar. The most extreme manifestation of any infectious disease is septic shock. This topic is covered extensively in Chapter 19.
