ABSTRACT

An unexpected event that could have derailed our organizational transition process ends up putting us on a path to constructive solutions.

One fine morning, an inspector from the Commission de la Santé et de la Sécurité du Travail (CSST) (Quebec’s workplace health and safety commission) shows up at the company’s door. He asks Monique, the manager, for permission to tour the factory. When asked about the nature of his surprise visit, he says he received an anonymous call from an employee reporting the immense “danger” to which employees are exposed by the new practice of sewing in a standing-up position.
