ABSTRACT

The essential task in video analysis and indexing is to present an abstract of the entire video within a short clip, namely, to provide a compact video representation while preserving the essential activities of the source video. Nevertheless, most video cataloguing approaches are based on the selection of key frames within the shots of a video. Thus, key frame extraction is a very crucial step in video processing and indexing. Generally, a key frame is defined as one or several frames that typically represent the whole content in a small video clip, that is, a shot or a scene. In this chapter, we introduce several typical key frame extraction methods and a novelty key frame extraction method for feature movies.
