ABSTRACT
Predisposing factors do not cause otitis externa but their presence increases the likelihood of otitis occurring. Hirsute ear canals and abnormal amounts of glandular tissue in the ear canal are predisposing problems in Cocker Spaniels; Shar Peis are notorious for having very narrow ear canals.
