ABSTRACT

The health care industry is the largest single sector in the U.S. economy, employing more than 12% of the total workforce of the United States. This sector contributes almost 18% to the overall U.S. economy. Although most think first of capital, such as physical facilities and technological equipment, the health field is very labor-intensive. There are more than 200 different occupations and professions in the health care sector. These can be divided into two distinct groups, as shown in Table 7.1.
