ABSTRACT

Hospitals employ the largest percentage of health care workers in the entire health care system-42% in 2005. At least one-third of all money spent in the health care sector is spent on medical services delivered in a hospital setting (Shi and Singh, 2014). The actual definition of a hospital is quite simple: an institution with at least six beds, the primary function of which is to deliver patient services for both treatment and diagnosis of medical conditions (Shi and Singh, 2014). Hospitals are commonly thought of as the facility in which inpatient care takes place, but they have broadened their scope to include a variety of services, some of which are outpatient and some of which are not located in the physical location of the hospital.
