ABSTRACT

In many industrial countries, soils are affected by mine waste disposal, acid deposition, and sewage sludge use that could provide large inputs of pollutants and especially trace elements (TEs) to the soils. TEs are dened as elements that are present at low concentrations (mg kg-1 or less) in most soils, plants, and living organisms. TEs that have been most extensively studied in soils are those that are essential for the nutrition of higher plants and include copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), boron (B), cobalt (Co), or selenium (Se).
