ABSTRACT
Observing time on major telescopes is hard to get. You apply for time months, or years, in advance, and then your proposal gets judged against all the others that have come in. If you’re lucky, you get allocated a few nights on some specific future dates on which to make your observations. You then refine your plans, book your plane tickets, and hope that bad weather or some other complicating factor doesn’t mess everything up.
