ABSTRACT
This chapter gives an introduction on the analysis of the generation of solitons in a mode-locked fiber ring structure in which optical modulator and optical gain device are incorporated. Conditions for passive and active mode-locking are given in association with the nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE). An experimental setup and simulation system are described to demonstrate the analytical, simulation, and experimental agreement in the generations of solitons.
