ABSTRACT
Handling an artery by clamping, performing anastomoses or balloon angioplasty/stenting can promote a pathologic healing process that can lead to luminal narrowing. Despite advances in open vascular surgery and endovascular techniques over the past half-century, restenosis remains one of the most important determinants of long-term arterial patency and the ultimate success of interventions.
