Traumatic TAI is the second most common cause of death due to blunt force. It is implicated as cause of mortality in up to one-third of all automobile accident deaths, the majority (80%) of which occur prior to hospital arrival.1 Despite this frequency among motor vehicle deaths, the public health issue of TAI has been underappreciated.
