Organ transplantation is essentially a vascular surgical procedure, although with increasing complexity of procedures and subspecialization, there is a decreasing number of surgeons practising in both elds. is chapter will give an overview of the vascular aspects of organ transplantation including the procurement procedures, the current techniques of implantation and the more common vascular complications. It is intended as a general approach that should prove useful to trainees and assist vascular surgeons supporting transplantation programs; specialists in the transplant eld should refer to detailed texts. ough fundamentals of thoracic organ retrieval are included, this being a frequent component of the procurement operation, details of implantation are beyond the terms of reference and will not be covered.
