ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will study radio communications for a variety of wireless applications in environmental monitoring, particularly on how to enable collection of data from a remote station. We focus on the physical principles and available technology (WNDW 2013). For this purpose, we cover topics in telemetry, transmission, reception, and antennas. Many aspects of these topics are relevant for wireless networks (WNDW 2013); however, we postpone discussion of networks to chapter 8.
