ABSTRACT

It is hoped that double opposing Z-plasty palate repair will be another step toward the surgical goals of normal speech, growth, and hearing for the child with a cleft of the palate.1

Research Question Previous techniques of cleft palate repair have resulted in midfacial growth retardation or required multiple stages that resulted in poor speech. Does a single-stage Z-plasty palate repair effectively close the cleft and result in adequate speech function?
