ABSTRACT

Spine fusion surgery was first reported in 1911 by Dr. Albee: “Transplantation of a portion of tibia into the spine for Pott’s disease”.1 The subsequent evolution of spine fusion procedures occurred as a reaction to the concept of immobilization of a vertebral segment to avoid further movement and associated pain. During the past 100 years, spine fusion has become a standard of surgical care for a variety of spine pathologies, and it has developed several technique-based branches. Müller approached the spine from the front as early as 1906.
