ABSTRACT

Plant Description Occurring as annuals or perennials, the genus has approximately 300 species that are native to Asia, Europe, and North America. Plants have erect stems, that may be branched or not, and leaves that are once or twice, pinnately compound, fern-like, hairless or with crystalline vesicles. Inflorescences are racemes or panicles produced terminally or in leaf axils. Flowers are bilaterally symmetrical, tubular with a short backward pointing spur that may be curved. Flower colors range from green, white, yellow, pink to purple and blue depending upon the species (Figures 118-121). Fruits are dehiscent capsules containing from 3 to many kidney-shaped seeds.
