ABSTRACT

Plant Description Allamanda is comprised of at least 12 shrub or by vine-like species found mostly in the warm temperate and tropical areas of the Americas. Several cultivars of the species have been developed. Allamanda cathartica is commonly grown for its large yellow trumpet-like flowers that are produced year-round (Figures 34 and 35). It is a vine-like shrub growing to 15ft. in height, with a milky sap, and glossy, simple, lanceolate, opposite or whorled leaves. The fruits are globose capsules covered with soft spines, turning brown when ripe. Bush allamanda (A. schottii) is a more compact plant with smaller yellow flowers. Allamanda blanchetii has purple colored flowers.
