Plant Description There are approximately 25 species of Arum indigenous to the Mediterranean area and as far north as England. Some species are cultivated in North America. Tuberous perennials with broad fleshy, arrow head-shaped, often variegated, leaves, and long petioles. The inflorescence consists of a spathe, the true minute flowers are densely arranged on the central spadix, that is surrounded by a large white, green-yellow, or purple spathe. The fruits are orange or red berries (Figure 52). The white “arum lily” commonly sold in flower shops is not a member of the Arum genus, but is Zantedeschia aethiopica.
