ABSTRACT

Risk Assessment Avocado trees are commonly grown in tropical areas for their edible fruits, and as shady trees. The seeds are often germinated in the home as a children’s project accomplished by placing the seed in water and observing its rapid growth. The seedling then can be planted outside in warm climates, or it can be grown as a potted houseplant. The seeds should also be considered toxic. Persea americana var. Guatemala and any hybrids should not be fed to caged birds or avocado plants placed in an aviary.
